I'll admit to being a mite jealous as I endure a damp, dark southern winter, distinctly devoid of interesting megafauna. A southerly gale is forcing icy water through the cracks in the windows today, reminding me how close I live to Antarctica. But I know there is a spur-winged plover hunched over her eggs in the paddock, the garlic is up in the garden, and this year's seed order is on its way to me. Our summer is not far away, and it lasts 6 months, so I can't complain.

Glad to know you are getting outdoors and not sitting around blogging all day...plenty of time to write during that northern winter...

I quote from your blog: "To properly engage in this time zone one should disregard schedules and simply hang loose."
Has this ever really been a problem for you?

And the fact that your "girth has melted a bit" and you are "down to the last belt hole before I have to take an awl and bore another" really irritates me. You know, of course, that there is a limited supply of fat cells, and when you are losing them, someone else is gaining them. I am also at the last belt hole, but it is going the wrong way!

I always enjoy your writing; thanks for sharing the Yukon. We did enjoy a great little golf course on the highway not too far from you. It was one of the sunnier days we had when visiting the great north.
